Volunteer: September 2008 Archives

How to volunteer

|

Volunteer now!

To volunteer your time, simply e-mail us your name, child’s name, and their teacher’s name.

Browse the volunteer opportunities to see if there something that interests you, but don’t be shy about contacting us. We can always use some help!

Why volunteer?

Because it’s fun!

But also because excellent schools don’t just happen, they are created. Schools with strong parent involvement programs experience profound benefits for students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Research shows that when parents are involved in students’ education, those students generally have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and more consistently completed homework.

Every day offers a fresh opportunity to get involved with your child.

Cut and Chat begins September 17

|

Hello everyone and welcome back to school! We will begin meeting for Cut and Chat again this year, in the Parent Center from 8:45-11:00am every Wednesday beginning September 17th. Please come in and stay for as long as you can, whenever you can. You’ll help with projects for our classroom teachers. We may be making copies, sorting newsletters, cutting out projects, making work folders, whatever the teachers need.

Feel free to bring young children, as there are toys in the Parent Center to occupy them. We provide a very important service to the staff and teachers. It’s a great way to get to know other parents at school and contribute to your child’s success at Parkwood. Hope to see you soon!

Walk-A-Thon October 3rd

|

The Walk-A-Thon’s date has changed to Friday, October 3rd from 1:15-2:30pm. Volunteers are needed for setting up, hole-punching cards to record kids’ laps around the track, and manning a water station.

Embrace Shoreline Schools Day

|

The second Embrace Shoreline Schools Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is a joint effort between area churches, the school district, neighborhood associations, community members, and the PTA to beautify our Shoreline schools.

Join other Shoreline families in beautifying our grounds here at Parkwood. Please meet in the back parking lot at 9:00a.m. and stay to work, visit with your community, and enjoy snacks.

Please bring your gloves, gardening tools, and a wheelbarrow if you have one.

Please call Jill Smith at 542.4158 or email jillheineysmith@comcast.net with questions. Hope to see you there!
