Welcome from the PTA President

Welcome to Parkwood!

It’s exciting to be beginning a new school year here at Parkwood. Welcome to both returning parents and those who are new to the school. We hope this year will be a successful and fun one for both kids and parents. PTA plays a big part in both the success and fun.

If you haven’t already joined the PTA, we’d like to invite you to do so. We need lots of help to provide the fun activities and services for kids and families here at Parkwood. If you just attended the Back-to-School BBQ, you saw the PTA at work. We will continue to have great activities like the Harvest Festival, the Talent Show and Family Heritage Night. We also help with enrichment activities like Reflections, after school activities, student banking and other activities to help provide our children with experiences that will help them become well-rounded adults with many interests and strong connections to community. Community ties are also strengthened by service activities like the annual food drive, Works (which serves families in need), cleaning up, improving and maintaining our school grounds, etc.

All of these activities and services as well as the many others we’re involved in each year require three major contributions: The first is lots of labor. All of these activities require people to plan, set up, clean up, shop, decorate, staff, etc. The more people who are involved the easier the work is and the more fun it is because we aren’t “burning out” just a few people, but learning from and enjoying the interaction of many. The second thing we need is financing. You can help first of all by joining the PTA. If you don’t have time to be involved in lots of activities, please join anyway. Your membership fees will help to see that things can continue. The other way we finance PTA activities is with fund raisers. The first of these — PACE — just kicked off. Please look at the materials your child brought home and see if this is a way you can help. There will be other fund raisers as the year unfolds. The third thing we need is your ideas and feedback. We only know if the activities we are working on are helpful to you and to your children if you let us know. You can tell us which things work for you and what things we can improve upon. Perhaps there are things we could be doing that we haven’t even thought about doing. If you have ideas, please let us know. Talk to any PTA board member — at an event, on the phone, or by e-mail.

Whether you’re contributing, time, money or ideas we need you to make this year’s Parkwood experience wonderful!
