Ongoing PTA Events

Mondays 8:30am – Monday Morning Coffee
Join us in the main hall by the office for a cup of coffee to start the week.

Wednesdays 8:30-10:30am – Cut ‘N Chat 
Are you interested in getting to know other parents at Parkwood? Can you cut, assemble, copy, color, copy, glue, staple & trace for teachers? Woudl you like to lighten the load of some of our amazing PW teachers? Then you will love Cut & Chat! We, a cool group of parents, meet on Wednesday mornings from 8:30-10:30am at the school. Monthly – Grounds Clean Up
Skip your Friday evening or Saturday morning workout & get ready for an hour or two per month to help make & keep the Parkwood grounds weed free! Bring your own tools & help us week, cut, sweep and beautify while the kids play. See below for specific dates and times.

September 2014

September 3rd & 4th at 8:40am in the gym – Tea & Tissues
This informal gathering happens on the first and second day of school. It provides an opportunity for parents of Kindergarteners (and anyone else!) who would like a little support as they send their youngster off for their first day of school.

September 11th – Enrichment Program flyers are being sent home
The Parkwood PTA offers various after school activities and programs. The fall programs include Soccer, Basketball, Taekwondo, Drama, Improv Comedy, Pottery, Computer Game Design, Legos Pre-engineering, Math Club, Cooking, Chess, Spanish and Mandarin. September 19th – United Way Day of Caring
On September 19th the school participates in this event organized by the United Way. A group of outside volunteers will take on some important projects. Last year over 100 volunteers from Microsoft came and helped make the school ‘look good’.

September 23rd – Curriculum Night 
5:30-6:30pm – Arrive early for the PTA “Meet & Greet’

Arrive early for curriculum night and learn about what the PTA is doing and the different ways you can get invlved at the school whether it be through the PTA or in some other way.
6:30-7:30pm – Curriculum Night
The school hosts an evening for parents to talk with their child’s teacher, see their child’s classroom, and most importantly learn what they will be studying that year and what the expectations are for student and parents.
7:00-9:00pm – PTA General Meeting
Following curriculum night please join us in the library to learn more about the Parkwood PTA and how you can be involved. Everyone welcome!

September 23rd – Fall Fundraiser Kick Off
The PTA fall fundraiser will kick off on September 23rd. We invite all families to consider giving back to Parkwood during our Fall Giving Campaign so that we can provide grants to each classroom teacher, support fieldtrips, and offer scholarships for our wonderful afterschool programs. We count on you, so that teachers and the school can count on us!

Cafecitos: café, meriendas y conversaciones. !Tu estas invitado! Será Jueves el 25 de septiembre. Los enfoques de esta reunión son: *!Decir bienvenidos!, llegar a conocernos, y dar respuestas a sus preguntas. Hay dos oportunidades venir:  8:45-9:45 a.m o 1:45-2:45 p.m. La reunión será en el salón #27, al lado de la oficina central (El ano pasado fue nombrado El centro de los padres o “The Parent Center”).

September 27th, 10am-2pm – Community Garage Sale
The Parkwood PTA is hosting it’s inaugural Community Garage Sale on the Parkwood School Grounds to benefit 6th grade camp. If you want to participate and sell your treasures, hand-crafted goods, books and more, you need to register by September 15th! Click here for more information and to print a registration form.

September 30th, 6pm in the gym – Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night
D.O.G.S. stands for “Dads of Great Students” and we welcome all dads, granpas, uncles and other father figures to come see what this wonderful program is all about. More information can also be found here.

October 2014

Reflections Launch
National PTA Reflections welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved int he arts. Annually, thousands of students reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in the categroes of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. This year’s theme is “The world would be a better place if…”. All entries are displayed at school and a reception is held to celebrate the accomplishments of the participants. Keep an eye out for entry information in your child’s backpack mail.

October 1st, 7:00-8:30pm – PTA Board Meeting in the Parkwood Library

October 31st, during the school day – Move-A-Thon
Each year the school hosts a Move-A-Thon on Halloween during school hours to get the kids up and moving and to raise money for field trips and teacher projects. Please keep an eye out for pledge forms in your child’s backpack mail.

November/December 2014

School Dance
It’s become a tradition to gather our school community every year in December for our annual school dance, hosted by a Parkwood family at the school gym.

Food Drive
Parkwood PTA participates in the Shoreline Council PTA Food Drive and collects food and cash donations for families in need.

Family Heritage Classes
Our annual heritage classes demonstrate the diversity in our school and are a great way to learn all about other cultures, their customs and traditions. The Heritage Classes are offered weekly culminating in our annual Heritage Night.

March/April 2014

Heritage Night
Heritage Nights is a celebration of the diversity of cultures at Parkwood. Everyone is invited to bring a favorite cultural or family dish and there is a variety of cultural entertainment and decorations.

Golden Acorn & Outstanding Educator Awards
These are PTA awards that recognize outstanding volunteer service to Parkwood and to recognize outstanding contributions by teachers and staff.

May/June 2014

Teacher & Staff Appreciation
Each year, the first full week of May is national teacher appreciation week. At Parkwood we treat our teachers & staff with a special something each day of the week to show our appreciation. Check your backpack mail for details.

Talent Show
Parkwood has TONS of talent and our annual talent show provides an opportunity for children to sing, to dance, put on a skit, play an instrument, etc. It is always loads of fun!

Silent Auction & Basket Raffle
Leading up to our annual talent show, the PTA hosts its spring fundraiser, a silent auction and basket raffle! A fun way to find some great treasures!

Parkwood Yearbook Sales
A group of dedicated parents is working hard each year to produce a yearbook gathering the photographic memories from the school year. The yearbook is available for purchase toward the end of the school year in May/June and more likely than not your student will want a copy.
