Ways and Means Committee

|

The Ways and Means Committee ensures that the PTA raises sufficient funds to meet its annual objectives and that the efforts of fundraising are well integrated with those of other programs and committees. We hold two major fundraisers annually, but additionally seek other fundraising options including individual donations, in-kind donations, and other creative options to reach our financial objectives.

Meeting attendance is not required, but members are always welcome at General Membership meetings, and Board of Director Meetings.

We value everyone’s input.

What is the PTA?

|

Parent Teacher Association is group dedicated to the advocacy and advancement of educational opportunities for children of all ages. It’s roots go back over 100 years. As members of PTA, we are supported by National PTA, Washington State PTA, and with the Shoreline PTA Council.

The Objectives of National PTA

To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school community, and place of worship.

To raise the standards of home life.

To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.

To bring into closer relation the home and the school that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.

To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

Can I really make a difference?

Yes, when you are involved your child achieves more.

How do I help my child succeed?

You can help your child succeed by providing a home that encourages learning and supports your child’s physical, mental, and emotional development. And, you can help your child succeed by working with the school and other community groups that have an impact on your child.

What happens if I get involved?

Decades of research show that when parents are involved students have :

  • Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates
  • Better school attendance
  • Increased motivation, better self-esteem
  • Lower rates of suspension
  • Decreased use of drugs and alcohol
  • Fewer instances of violent behavior
  • Greater enrollment rates in post-secondary education
