Parkwood PTA Meeting 2/15/11

Meeting began 7:00 pm

Budget Review

NL advised teacher grants in the amount of $100 and a deadline of March 31, 2011 for receipt reimbursement. Further discussion on reallocation of funds as follows: $175 for juggling and $750 to the general fund for other uses. Updated status of $1,500 Boeing Grant and was advised that PW did not receive. Finally, Islandwood would be further discussed in upcoming meetings.

Open Board Positions

Open Board positions discussed and noted the following positions filled: box tops, reader board, lost & found, cut & chat, family events & activities, back to school bbq, embrace Shoreline, family & community services, and first aid kits (**note on first aid kits-possibility to increase budget to allow excess purchase of emergency & first aid kits). NW and LH to email shoreline community and solicit for open positions.

Presbyterian Church

Shoreline Presbyterian Church would like to reach out to the PW neighborhood as respects parent education and kid programs. The Associate Pastor would like feedback on ideas and we can forward accordingly to KB.

VP Updates

Photography Class - Susan Lovelace advises there will be a photography class beginning on 3/28/11 and PW will most likely have to have a lottery for class selection. She advises the class is free of cost will be approximately 8 weeks.

Additional upcoming classes include: Math Olympiad, Chess Club, Music Class (currently enrolling 3/7 for a 6 weeks and may have scholarship requests), and Chinese Class is on going. Also, JP inquires possibility of funds available for a science class next fall.

CF updates members on the Holiday food drive and that PW 1st graders would be having a pizza party as the reward. Works volunteers scheduled as follows: 3/3 are CF, JS, and JB and 3/9 are CF, LH, and DR. CF advises items need are socks and undergarments. A donation box will be located in the PW main office. CF will compose a flyer and publish in March newsletter regarding above needed items.

LH has Mariner tickets available for a PW group function. A tentative date of May 6 is planned and a minimum of 40 people are required. A group pricing may be available and event could be a possible fundraiser for pta. PW pta would collect the funds. An advertisement for game will be posted in March newsletter. LH moved and all approve.

Additional items discussed:

One World is scheduled for March 17th with a budget of $400 and Mary Servais will run/organize program. PTA Speaker scheduled for Wed, April 27th with a topic of “Taming back talk”. Event will be posted in PW newsletter. PW received Washington Achievement Award and JS will obtain further info from L. Ploudre and will advise on a future date. PW pta meeting for April 26th has been discussed to be a General Meeting and JS will compose flyer and will be in newsletter.
Ice Cream social is scheduled for May 24th. Region 6 for “Focus Day” is scheduled in Olympia on Feb 23rd and JS will attend. PTA pta binders were created and distributed to current board members with the purpose of creating detailed descriptions of pta positions, resources, and other necessary information that pertains to position. Board Members are requested to compile info and place in binders accordingly. Talent show fundraiser and inquiring with community partners for donations. Board Members were advised that Costco and Sam’s Club are donating to the event. Board Members will inquire with other community partners for additional donations.
