PTA Meeting Notes for 12/14/10

Attendance Natalie Lecher, Jan Pembrooke, Lisa Hayes, Jill Smith, KaLyn Burmeister, Natalie Williams, Stephanie Korn, Charlene Farkas, Susan Lovelace, Anita Wooster, and Deborah Rodriguez

Call to Order

*Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.

Budget

*Final review of budget with a motion to pass 11/2010 by NL and seconded by JS.
*Review of additional items:
-All monthly spending is posted at bottom of each financial statement; -Funding from future fundraisers; -$1,000 excess from afterschool programs and what possibilities it can be used for; i.e.: suggested use for video cameras for classroom use or juggling equipment for PE class; -Boeing Grant for Islandwood was applied for and will be advised of status at the end of Jan; -Discussion for beginning 2011-2012 budget and what PW can anticipate;

-Scholarships discussed with agreement to allocate an additional $100 for enrichment classes;

-and request for budget for plates for Heritage Night.

*A motion to pass financial changes and report by LH and a seconded by AW.

Nominating Committee

*PW Board Positions need to be filled: VP of Community Services; Co-President with NW; and Treasurer. *Email to “group list” and reach out to PW’s International Committee. NW will inquire with Mary Servais to contact families from the International Committee to get involved in PW’s pta (and AW to assist).

Family Heritage Night

*Scheduled for Jan. 27, 2011. KB met with Mary Servais regarding volunteers for entertainment. KB has contact list and will advise. PW Teachers will be in charged of posters and will display at school. Food, entertainment, teacher involvement, and Shoreline high school students to volunteer and assist with event.

Harvest Festival Update

*Event was successful.

Kinderfest

*Event scheduled for Jan. 29, 2011 and Registration begins Jan. 31, 2011. Parkwood Elem. event flyers, sign up sheet for playdates, and flyers for PW pta. NW will represent PW @ Kinderfest held in Spartan Gym.

Vice Presidents Updates

*Food Drive-CF/KB/LH will collect boxes. Event will take place at Kellogg Middle School @ 9:00 am, Dec. 18, 2011. *Lost & Found position has been filled and clothing will be washed and deposited at the Works. *Brown Bag-JS attended in Nov & Dec. advised: -Shoreline School Dist. will participate with “Fresh Food” and work out of the Shoreline School Dist. central kitchen. Food tasting and yogurt trial @ PW the week of 12/13/10. A representative will be present to oversee trail; -Shorecrest and Shorewood new buildings discussion and effects on the future and Shorewood HS to be completed by 2013; -PW fields to be updated this year; -Instructional Technology upgrades on computers and “whiteboards”; -and WA State budgets for school cuts passed on 12/11/10 weekend and classroom sizes expected to increase in future.
