PTA Fall Fundraiser – We are now completing our fall fundraiser for the PTA. It raises money for ongoing PTA activities and programs.
Reflections (description see below) - Due Date for submissions is October 22, 2010.
Harvest Festival October 29 – This is a PTA-sponsored family event that celebrates the fall season. There are games, activities, prizes, food and music. Children (and adults) are invited to come in costume if they wish.
November 2010
Reflections – This is a national PTA arts competition. Children in all grades are encouraged to submit an original piece of art, literature or music based on a yearly theme. This year the theme is “Together We Can.” All entries are displayed at school and a reception is held to celebrate the accomplishments of the participants. Read the newsletter for more information. Submissions are due on October 22, 2010.
December 2010
Food Drive – Parkwood PTA participates in the Shoreline Council PTA Food Drive and collects food and cash donations.
Holiday Sing-Along – This assembly is a Parkwood tradition and usually occurs on the last day of school before winter break. It is a time for the whole school to sing a variety of holiday songs from many different traditions. There are chairs set up in the back for parents to attend and join in.
January 2011
Family Heritage Night January 27 – This PTA-sponsored event is a celebration of the diversity of cultures at Parkwood. Everyone is invited to bring a favorite cultural or family dish and there is a variety of cultural entertainment and decorations.
February 2011
PTA Fundraiser – The PTA generally has a second fundraiser in the winter to provide additional funds for its projects and programs.
March 2011
Golden Acorn & Outstanding Educator Awards – These are PTA awards given to recognize outstanding volunteer service to Parkwood and to recognize outstanding contributions by teachers and staff.
April/May 2011
Talent Show – This is a PTA-sponsored event that provides an opportunity for children to sing, dance, put on a skit, play an instrument, etc. It is always loads of fun! Last year we also raised money for the PTA by raffling off baskets and collecting donations.
June 2011
Parkfest – Parkfest is the final culmination of the year at Parkwood. It is a day-long celebration of the arts and how they have been incorporated to support the core curriculums. Each grade will perform at a specified time and their classroom will be open before and after their performance time for the parents to see their child’s work.
Field Days – Our PE specialist develops fun physical activities for primary and intermediate kids (separately). Kids circulate through the activities at their own pace. The partnership with parent volunteers makes this event especially collaborative and rewarding for kids and adults alike.
Awards Assembly – This assembly celebrates the special achievements of our students. Certificates and awards are given for citizenship, attendance and service to the school.
Other Events
Cut & Chat – happens every Wednesday morning in the Parent Center. It is a chance for parents to help the teachers prepare classroom materials, while also getting to know other parents. There are toys available for younger siblings who are always welcome to come with you.
There are also opportunities for after-school activities sponsored by both the school and the PTA. The PTA also sponsors various family activities throughout the year depending on interest and volunteering support.
