The meeting was held at 7:00 on February 11, 2009.
In attendance were: Sharleen Lambard, Jim Mercer and Jan Pembrooke with special guest Amanda Findley.
Amanda Findley showed the 11-minute DVD “A Call to Action: Ample Funding for Washington Schools.” We discussed the value of showing it to either another PTA meeting or to all parents. The concensus was that it would be good to show it to all interested parents and that it should be shown as soon as scheduling permits. Amanda is not available on March 11, 2009 but can come on March 12, 2009. Sharleen is willing to adapt the handout Amanda has and prepare it to send out to all parents via the children if we agree to do it and select a date. Amanda is willing to come, show the video and lead the discussion. We discussed whether it should be shown in the gym, parent center or library. The gym seemed to big and the parent center too small. If the library is available this seems like the best choice. Trying to do a separate board meeting seemed like too many meetings to ask people to attend so we felt that we could just hold a short meeting following Amanda’s program. Sharleen will send out an e-mail vote to the board and committee.
Budget Review. Jim wrote the checks requested by Natalie Lecher for after school activities. The checks written were for:
Spanish class (Pamela Kinnear) $170 for supplies and $380 for scholarships. Music Class (Wendy Zieve) $192 for scholarships.
Somehow we managed to not show scholarships as a line item on this budget so we probably need to reallocate some funds at some point but both checks were issued. We would like Pamela to turn in the receipts for the $170 for supplies. (Natalie Lecher, can you handle this?)
Jan Pembrooke presented a request for reimbursement from a teacher for gardening soil that was brought in for the school. Although the teacher was willing to submit it under the $100 per teacher reimbursement Jan felt that it was more appropriate that it be paid from the money budgeted for landscaping and that the $100 still be available for the teacher to spend for classroom activities. Since there was money budgeted for landscaping we issued the check and allocated it to that fund.
Meeting notes from 1/14 meeting. No corrections or additions were requested.
Since so few people (only 3) attended it was suggested that we might want to revisit the subject of a meeting date.
